Ryleigh is Eleven Months!!!!!!!!!!!

Ryleigh at 11 months (September 15, 2011)

So I'm not even going to mention the fact that my little baby is one month away from being One Year old.  We'll just skip right over that because Mommy isn't ready.  We will just continue on and discuss what an amazing month this past one has been...

Oh my!  What an amazing month this has been!!  It hasn't really been too busy, which was nice after last month's hectic schedule.  We spent a lot of time at home and even had some people from church over for dinner.  Ryleigh enjoyed having someone to play with, even though I think he enjoyed playing with Lucy a little more.

This month we did take quite the trip and drove up to Michigan to spend a week visiting family and friends.  This was our first big driving trip since last December when we drove up to Michigan last time.  It was much different with a 10 month old than it was with a 2 month old.  I couldn't really tell you which one was better or worse though.  You can read all about it HERE.

We also discovered this past month that Ryleigh will be sporting a new "birthmark" on her face for a little while.  She has a hemangioma on her cheek right under her left eye.  It started out tiny and flat, but grew and became raised after about 2 weeks.  We went to the doctor to have it checked out and they told us it is fairly common for children to develop them.  It's basically tangled and twisted capillaries that have no place to go other than up and they develop a little red bump.  The doctor also told us that it can get bigger and if it becomes an issue we can go see a dermatologist, but if it stays small it should go away.  75% go away by age 2 and 90% are gone by age 3.  Ryleigh's has gotten a little bigger since we saw the doctor, but for right now we're just keeping an eye on it and treating it like a freckle.

We haven't learned any new words since last month, we're just perfecting the ones we know now.  Ryleigh has started putting Mommy's cell phone (or pretty much anything else) up to her ear when you say "Ryleigh, say hello".  It's pretty cute, especially when she does it with some sort of stuffed animal or a book.  She likes to point at things and babble now and I never know what she wants because obviously she can't say "hey Ma, give me that book, can't you see I'm pointing at it?!"  But I try and ask "what do you want? Is this what you want? Are you pointing at this?"  in hopes that she'll maybe catch on.  And I know we discovered last month that Ryleigh is a biter, but thinking that she had learned her lesson and was over that stage was a mistake.  I learned that Ryleigh deliberately bites when she is mad...and she will chomp down right on your jawbone if she has to to make her point.  Let's just say, we're working on it.

Buuuutttt...the most exciting thing about this past month is....Ryleigh started walking!!  After months of walking around the furniture and a couple weeks of taking 2-3 steps here and there, our little mover and shaker is venturing away from the furniture!  She's been going strong for 2 weeks now.  She's still a little wobbly and is working on her balance, but man can she cruise through the house now!  Good thing Mommy put all those baby gates up last month.  It's so much fun to watch her walk around and look at things and run to Lucy to give her a toy and be able to take her out of her car seat, put her on the ground and hold her hand as we both walk into the grocery store.  But the best part about her walking?  Watching her run to you to give you a big 'ol hug : )

Sigh...

One month to go?  Really?  She'll be a toddler in 30 days.  A walking, talking, drinking out of a sippy cup, eating solid foods like I do, not using a binkie toddler.  No more baby in this house.  I guess that means I need to get started on another one, huh?

Couponing: Triple Coupons!

My dream come true!  Harris Teeter started it's triple coupon week today and I was there at 7 a.m. as soon as it started!  I was up at 5:30 a.m. showering, drying my hair, drinking coffee and by 6:30 a.m. Ryleigh was up getting dressed and packed into the car along with my trusty coupon binder and list of deals.

The way triple couponing works is the store will triple the amount of your .99 and under coupons.  This particular store will only triple 20 coupons per day per VIC card.  So I get my 20 coupons today, then I'll get 20 more to triple tomorrow and so on.  I could go back today and get triple coupons without using my VIC card, but then I wouldn't get any of the store sales and the first rule of couponing is you don't buy anything that isn't on sale AND you have a coupon for.

I'm not going to lie, I thought I was going to spend less than I did, but a few of my big deals were either already sold out (are you kidding me?! 7 a.m. on the first day and someone has beat me to it!?) or I didn't even see that the store carried the item.  Ryleigh is also in desperate need of baby food, which was still on sale, but I didn't have a coupon for, so not as good a deal as it could have been, but hey, a baby's gotta eat.  Regardless, I'm proud of what I got.  Here's the rundown of my steals : )

Mueller's Spaghetti, $1.25 + .55/1 (tripled) = FREE!!
Campbell's Chunky Soup, 2/$3 + .50/2 (tripled) = $1 each
Nature Valley Granola Bar, 2/$5 + .75/2 (tripled) = $1.37 each
Nature Valley Nut Crunch, 2/$5 + .75/2 (tripled) = $1/37 each
Nature Valley Granola Thins, 2/$5 + .75/1 (tripled) = .25 each!!
Fiber One Chewy Bars, 2/$5 + .40/1 (tripled) = $1.30 each
Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix, 2/$4 + .75/2 (tripled) = .88 each
Prego Pasta Sauce, 2/$4 + .75/3 (tripled) = $1.25 each
Velveeta Cheesy Skillet, 2/$5 + $1/1 = $1.50 each
Gerber Baby Food, 5/$5 = $1 each
Harris Teeter Reusable Shopping Bags, $2.49 = on clearance for .99

*These are my favorites because they are Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) offers and if you have 2 coupons, you can use both of them even though one of the items is free, so you get double the savings!!
Resolve Stain Remover spray, 3.49/BOGO + (2).50/1 (tripled) = .49/2 = .25 each!!
Purex 150oz. Laundry Detergent, 11.99/BOGO + (2) $2/1 = 7.99/2 = $3.99 each!!

This shopping trip I saved $132.46, leaving me to pay only $50.01.  That is a savings of 72.5%  Not too shabby, and well worth waking up early for : )

Extra:
I was also proud of myself at CVS last night where I spent $27 and received $16 back in CVS ExtraCare Bucks allowing me to purchase (5) 32 oz. Powerades, (4) 64 oz. V8 Splashs, and 1 gallon of milk for FREE!!  So I got $58 worth of product for $30. Yaaaay!

Happy Saving!

One Whirlwind Week

A little less than one year ago we were delighted to receive a Save The Date in the mail for a friend's wedding in Michigan.  We were even more delighted to see that she would be getting married over Labor Day weekend, making it super easy for us to turn this event into a much needed extended trip up north to visit family.

Before heading out, Ryleigh decided that Tuesday was the day she was going to start walking.  Both Mommy and Daddy were very excited, especially since we were so nervous it was going to happen while we were away from her at the wedding.  But nope, she decided that just in time for her to show off in front of family and friends, our little 10 1/2 month old started wobbling around the house : )

One of Ryleigh's first walking attempts before leaving that night

So off we went...we started out on Tuesday around 6:00 p.m.  We decided to drive through the night in hopes that it would be easier on Ryleigh to make the 10 hour trek and of course, she traveled amazingly.  And thanks to the newest addition to our family, our large SUV, Lucy enjoyed the trip a whole lot more by being able to stretch out fully on her own bench.

Finally asleep after Mommy made a makeshift bed

We arrived at Gammy & Grandad's house at 4:30 a.m. and after Lucy and Ryleigh blew off a little energy were tucked into bed at 5:15 a.m.  Lucky for us, Ryleigh let us sleep in until 9 a.m.  We spent the day bouncing from place to place seeing who we could and then ended our evening with a nice dinner with Mommy's best friend Adrienne.  Ryleigh also spent the day showing everyone her new walking skills and she continued to work on perfecting her new ability.

The next day, while Daddy and Grandad golfed, Gammy, Mommy and Ryleigh spent the day shopping and visiting more people.  We hung out around Gammy's house and let Ryleigh catch up on some sleep and then had dinner with Mamaw and Papaw.  We also got to spend some time with our cousins, Heather and Heidi.

with Heidi

Friday was a fun-filled day spent with Mommy's cousins Veronica and Victoria and her little girls Eleanor and Ava.  Against our better judgement, we went to the Detroit Zoo...in sweltering 90 degree heat and humidity.  Now, to us Richardson's who live in North Carolina, it wasn't that big of a change from being at home, but in retrospect, we probably could have thought of something "cooler" to do.  After only about 4 hours at the zoo we left to spend the rest of the day in air conditioning and to play.

so excited...or is she telling us she's so big?

Zonked!  This wasn't even 2 minutes after getting put in her seat.

Needless to say, Ryleigh was in bed early that night.  I guess that's what happens when a 10 1/2 month old gets up at 8 a.m., spends 4 hours outside in 90+ degree weather, sleeps for 20 minutes in the car and then is up and playing until 7 p.m.  She was a good little sleeper that night.  Which is good because the next day she had a lot of visitors.

Saturday was Miss Elaine's big wedding day!  While Mommy and Daddy had a night out to celebrate, Ryleigh spent the day with Gammy, Grandad, Mamaw, Papaw, Aunt Sheri, Heather and Heidi.  I know she had lots of fun and got plenty spoiled while Mommy and Daddy were out, but it was nice to see friends and have some "adult" time away from the baby.

No Mommy, don't leave...or at least that's what I like to think she's thinking : )

The wedding we went to that night was for Elaine (a close friend of ours that the hubby has known since middle school).  We've only met her new hubby a handful of times, but from what he know, he's great.  We were so happy to be able to celebrate with them and get to spend some time with them as well as with other friends.  They happened to choose probably one of the hottest September 3rds in history to get married and have their reception at the Detroit Yacht Club, which doesn't have air-conditioning.  Yikes!  But a few storms blew in which created nice winds off of the water and it ended up being a really nice evening for a wedding celebration.  Congratulations you two and welcome to the club!!

I apologize for the quality of my photos...my low-tech, 7 mega pixel camera does not do well without it's flash or while people are moving, so some of the pictures are dark and blurry.  But I figured I'd post them anyways...I know Elaine will enjoy them regardless : )

After spending an evening in such crazy heat, it was weird to wake up the next morning to an unseasonably cool day :/  Guess that's Michigan weather for ya, huh? or should I say, eh?  Anyways, we went to church and then spent the afternoon at Mommy's Aunt Lori's house with her, Uncle Joe, cousins Tim, Kara, Jenna and Great Grandma and Grandpa Elliott.  It was so much fun to watch Ryleigh play around with Mommy's cousins and of course, catch a nice a little nap on Great Grandma's lap.

Since the Mason clan won't be able to see Ryleigh on her first birthday (coming up October 15), Ryleigh got to open her birthday present from them early!  We were very excited to get some new clothes for the fall and some cute hair bows.

Ryleigh had so much fun playing with that little mountain toy in the bottom left corner.  She kept sticking the ball in the yellow nest, then she would put in a hole in the top and it was fall down a shoot and she would bend down and look into the door waiting for it to come out.  It was the cutest thing, but every time I turned on the camera, she became distracted by something!

PS:  That's Kara...she will be 11 on Sunday...she's 5'2"  When did that happen?!

awww, lovins

On Labor Day we stopped by Mamaw and Papaw's one last time to say goodbye and then traveled on down to Temperance to spend the day with Aunt Cristin, Uncle Dave, and cousins Tyler and Kylie.  We were really excited to spend the day on their boat with them (Aunt Cristin even bought Ryleigh her own butterfly life jacket), but unfortunately the weather did not have the same plan in mind.  Talk about unseasonably cool!!  Mommy and Ryleigh had to put on pants and sweatshirts!!  We ended up spending the day at Uncle Dave and Aunt Cristin's house playing (a safe distance away) by a nice big fire!!  Mmmmm...feels like fall!!  It was nice to see our cousins again and Daddy sure enjoyed spending time with his brother.  Gammy and Grandad came down to spend the day with everyone as well.  We enjoyed hot dogs, watermelon and LOVED playing with the doggies (Lucy and Blue).

Ryleigh was "doing her business" and holding onto the table leg for leverage...such a smart pooper

Once again, Ryleigh has obviously had one too many

Tyler showing off his football gear

Now, this next string of pictures is an attempt at taking a "nice family photo".  Grandad brought his tripod, set it up and asked that we all try to smile nicely.  Well, with a baby and 4 children (Tyler, Kylie, the hubby and his brother), you can guess how well that went...

there we go

After that debacle, Gammy and Grandad headed for home and we prepared to do the same.  The next morning we woke up, saw Tyler and Kylie off to their first day of school, then packed into our car and headed for home.  Ryleigh was a good little traveler yet again, although she was a better one through the night, but we managed.  We pulled into our driveway at 6:30 p.m. and prepared to finally relax : )

We really enjoyed being able to see all the family and friends that we saw and we hope to be able to see the ones we missed during our next trip!  It's tough living far away, but we're glad we have such an understanding and patient family that makes it so much easier when your time has to be shared between so many.
